I have a few adjustments or notes to reflect what I needed to do, but the pattern is written very well, I think.
I made one with the recommended hook size and it was just too small. Maybe I crochet more tightly than I think I do as this is becoming a theme for me, but some others who made this commented similarly.
To get a headband that I think will fit an average sized head, I went up to a size H hook. If you crochet loosely or have a tiny head, you may want to use a G, or even an F hook as the pattern suggests.
The only place where I felt the pattern could have been more clear is at the end of round 4. You’re told to break (cut) the yarn and then “join yarn at seam of fsc (foundation single crochet) round. Repeat pattern.”
I got hung up here a bit because my shells weren’t lining up the first time I tried this second part. If I remember correctly, I had to turn the headband inside out and crocheted going the opposite direction, and then my shells matched. Both sides look identical so there really isn’t a front or back or an inside-out. But if you try this, I think you’ll see what I mean.
Again, this is an easy pattern. You just crochet ‘round and ‘round until you’re done with one half of it. Turn it over and then crochet ‘round and ‘round again making the second half. You can leave off a row if you feel like it’s getting too wide, or crochet it up with four rows on both sides of the middle. I like it wider so mine has 4 rows on both sides of center.
