Directions are lacking. No stitch counts per round. No directives to bind off or where to start a round. There was mention made to watch for directions to turn the square but there was never any directive to do so. The seasoned crocheter will breeze through this but a beginner will definitely have problems with this pattern.

Isn’t a dropped dc a “Spike Stitch”?

I wonder if this had been tested because a few good testers could have remedied the issues I found with this pattern.

A few of my modifications:
Part of Round 10 is missing. I worked my sides like this:
Dc in next 3 stitches, hdc x 3 stitches, sc x 3 stitches, sc decrease over next 3 stitch cluster, sc x 3 stitches, hdc x 3 stitches, dc x 3 stitches. 2trc, ch2, 2trc (in corner). Repeat x 3, bind off. (I decreased to avoid ruffling.)

Round 11 Change color. I worked 23 dc on each side, (2dc, ch2, 2dc in corners). 108 dc stitches. 4 ch2 spaces. ( I added this round to adjust the stitch count.)

Round 12 I worked 27 dc on each side, (2dc, ch2, 2dc in corners).
124 dc stitches, 4 ch2 spaces. (I added this round to enhance the center frame. )

I didn’t write the rest of my mods but I did add a round to make my square larger.
