See previous project for notes on how I was originally starting this. Switching to this pattern…
v2 of pattern is up, lots of changes/improvements. I’d already increased over 4 rows (new pattern increases over 7 rows)…Will think on if I want to change it or not as I’m 11” into the 2x2 rib.
1/1/23
Went back and did the increases per the pattern. Made the armholes and back slightly less wide than the pattern measurements call for because me using a larger needle has made the fabric really stretchy.
Got 5 rows after the 2nd armhole and needed to take a break last night!
1/5/23
Finished weaving in ends and sewing on hood! So glad I had this pattern to go by, as I’d have given up on figuring it out exactly.
Overall notes!
Lengths as measured:
SCARF 33”
ARM HOLE 9”
TORSO LENGTH / TORSO FRONT 18”
TORSO BACK 9”
HOOD LENGTH 30”
Lengths in reality
SCARF 37” (155 rows)
INCREASE SECTION 11”
TORSO FRONT 21” (80 rows)
ARM HOLE 8” (31 rows)
TORSO BACK 7”
HOOD LENGTH 31” (130 rows)
HOOD WIDTH 8.5”
TOTAL LENGTH: 14 feet 7 inches
- I used lifelines on the first row of each section just in case, and for measuring symmetry later.
- I made the back torso less wide because my yarn/gauge was stretchier than expected.
- Hood is very droopy after attaching to the back, but that’s screen accurate from what I can tell.
- Hood - used mattress stitch to seam, and then squished it a bit to attach tot he body. It did end up coming over the arm holes a bit but it looks fine.
- The decrease steps are super helpful, but repeated rows could also be written as “knit the knits and purl the purls.”
- Will probably just safety pin this thing in place because it does NOT STAY on my shoulders.
- I’m not going to block it, I don’t want it to droop more.
I got some gray fabric from Joann’s and made armwarmers and dyed them darker using the RIT recipe for “silver polish.”
