Notes

Bought this yarn on clearance for $1.00 per skein. Purchased the pattern on sale at LYS for $.25 during a super sale. Wanted to do the medium size bag but didn’t have enough yarn, so I went for the small. Fast knit. Easy pattern. Pre felted size is approx. 14 high from bottom of bag to top of bag (not including handles). Approx. 19 inches wide to half of sides since bag is folded. Bottom is approx 12 inches deep by 13 inches wide. Felted in a pillow case and in hot water wash for 4 cycles along with some towels. On the third cycle, the purse came out of the pillow case. So, there is a bit of towel lint on the purse which I will need to shave off when dry. The yarn is a bit fuzzy but other than that, it felted well. Since the purse is an abstract shape, I blocked it well by stuffing a ton of plastic bags in it. It took about three days to dry completely. Color in picture with kitty is most accurate. Size after felting is 10 inches wide and 9 inches high. This bag would be great by adding an oversized flower, broach or accessory. However, thought I would try my hand at needle felting.

9/28/14 beginning the needle felting design. 9/30/14 finished needle felting. I was amazed at how easy it was. Just time consuming. Now for the lining and hardware.

Purchased horse bit for handle and post screws instead of rivets. Instead of the zipper, I used a magnetic clasp. I went to one of my LYS where I saw the bag knitted in the recommended yarn. It was very nice but the fabric had a lot of drape. The yarn I used resulted in a very sturdy fabric which didn’t require much interfacing or stability. Also with the extensive needle felting, it stiffened up the fabric where the design was placed. I really did not have to line this bag at all. Lining was pretty tough. Next time, I will only line the bottom. I also put some plastic needlepoint canvas in the bottom to add strength. Pretty pleased with the outcome since this was my first attempt at felting a knitted purse. Unable to capture true color of this purse and design. It is way prettier in person.
