This is my go to pattern for a special baby dress. It is quite easy and the pattern is well written. It crotchets very easy and can be modified. It is also a very quick project which requires no seaming. I always make the short dress rather than the gown, as it is so much prettier and can be worn more than one time. I love to add pearls and ribbon roses for a delicate touch. It makes a beautiful, heirloom gift.
The yarn is very soft and it has a wonderful drape for acrylic yarn. It feels wonderful next to the skin. It can split a bit but is not a real problem. It shows good stitch definition. I also like it because it is so easily available and you can’t beat the price.
I am making this one for my cousin’s precious little baby due this month. Two years ago, we got the news she was expecting twins. A few weeks into her pregnancy, we found out the babies were conjoined with little hope for survival. They were advised to abort. She courageously, with God’s help, carried the twin boys to 36+ weeks, against impossible odds. The twin boys had a lot of complications and were not expected to survive. The church from all over, rallied around this precious couple and their twin boys by lifting them in constant prayer. A lot of doctor visits were made to specialists in different cities. None of them had much hope for the twins but all were amazed how far they were coming. Even if they survived, the doctors did not know if they could be separated. They took it one day at a time. A few days before the scheduled early C section delivery, our little boys were taken to be with Jesus. Now, two years later, a little girl will be arriving soon. What joyous news. I want an extra special handmade gift for this little angel. Every stitch was made with prayer and praise to God for his blessings.
