1/19/2013 - Let the fixing begin! Have ripped back the sleeve joins and am in the process of swatching to see what needles to use so it will fit correctly this time!
10/11/2011 - Ends woven in and underarms 3-needle-bound-off. Will wait until after Rhinebeck to block and attempt the zipper. You can also tell where I switched to the metal needles at the sleeve join because there’s more bulk.. which.. I’ll live with. The front neck is a little weird and the sides overlap. I’ll ask opinions at Rhinebeck this weekend.
10/10/2011 - The knitting is done! I didn’t do a hood so, I did a few short rows across the back to bring the neckline up some and then did an i-cord bind off. Picture to come! Ends will be woven in and grafting will happen at knit night. There’s less than half a skein left of the 13 that are in this sweater.
10/6/2011 - Halfway through the yoke decreases!
10/5/2011 - Viv is now on a borrowed pair of ChiaGoo red lace needles until it’s completed. As of last night, I have about 30 rows of yoke decreases left, the shoulders, and figuring out how I’m going to finish the collar since I’m not knitting the hood. Then end weaving in and hopefully I’ll have a chance to block it with time to dry. I’ll attempt the zipper after Rhinebeck. I can do this!
Also, I’m glad that I bought more yarn. I’m nearing the end of number 11 and am going to wind number 12 to have ready.
10/4/2011 - So last Thursday (9/29/2011) the cable disconnected while I was joining my sleeves. I moved the sweater to 2 smaller Knit Picks circs thinking maybe there was too much weight on the cables. Now today at lunchtime the needle tip disconnected from one of those cables. I’m now up to 4 needle tip/cable separations on this sweater since 8/10/2011. That’s not even 2 months. So frustrated!
9/28/2011 - Finished row 115. 2 more rows and I get to join the sleeves!
9/25/2011 - After a weekend of marathon knitting, I’m about 20 rows from joining the sleeves!
9/22/2011 - At lunchtime today I finished row 53. This is about where I was before I ripped the whole thing out! Tonight I stopped knitting at row 60. I think I’m halfway to the sleeve joining!
9/20/2011 - Just finished row 43 before putting it down to go to bed.
9/19/2011 - I’m at row 28 of the body, again, which is halfway back to where I was when I ripped it out last Monday. I would have been further along, but yesterday as I was knitting along merrily at a friend’s house and saw that I forgot to start waist shaping 5 rows back. Ripped those back out, got it back on the needles, and continued on. If I wasn’t so determined, I might throw it across the room and let it think about what it’s done. Now I think I can read the pattern correctly, so I’m crossing my fingers that nothing else happens.
9/15/2011 - Restarted the body the other day. Am now about 10 rows in. It was easier to get started this time now that I know how the pattern works.
9/13/2011 - Body has been frogged. Will cast of again in a day or two.
9/12/2011 - I thought I would I get to drop 54 rows down for two 16sts sections. I can read charts just fine. It’s the text around charts that I don’t seem to read. And these is the same sections I dropped down 6 rows on last week.
I was wrong.
Last night I sat down to some television and dropped down the first section to start fixing it. I got about 15 rows fixed and realized that there’s no way in hell I’m going to be able to fit all the stitches back once I got to rows that were decreased. I tried using smaller needles, and smaller needles still. The stitches just didn’t want to go. I have to frog the body and start again.
9/6/2011 - 64 rows until I join the sleeves.
8/10/2011 - Moving along on the body. Finished row 12 last night and pulled the cable free of the needle tip join on both ends. The first one dropped 30 stitches (fixed now) and no damage for the second. I’m a bit miffed and need to find my superglue.
7/21/2011 - After working on a bunch of other stuff, I tried to actually start knitting the body at knit night. Big mistake. I may need to start again when I have no distractions.
4/28/2011 - Finished sleeve 2 the other day and have cast on the body.
4/26/2011 - Almost done with sleeve two. I need to give this project more attention!
2/11/2011 - Left sleeve is done! Will cast on the right sleeve tomorrow.
12/19/2010 - Working up the sleeve still. On the LLC chart.
11/27/2010 - Started on the left sleeve so I can get the hang of the main cable before starting the body. Of course now I need to finish other things before I get engrossed in this sweater.
This is my NaStaKniSweEndMo (my made up National Start Knitting a Sweater at the End of the Month) sweater. Yay!
(I want to try adding pockets. Another person added them vertically, but I think I could work out placing them horizontally by binding off X number of stitches and then CO X the next row. Maybe pick up and knit the pockets on the inside with a lighter weight yarn so I have somewhere warm to stick my hands. Depends if I can get the fabric to lay flat underneath the sweater and not appear bulky.)
