Notes

Unsure whether the blue yardage would be enough, I did a provisional CO, then knit the whole hat on 4.5mm.

In the charted section, I knit a ladder-back jacquard after every 3rd stitch, to carry floats efficiently. This should have removed the need for the background stitches within the maple leaves, so the leaves could have been solid red.

The red and blue are both bright, and similar in value, so the maple leaves don’t stand out well. They would have, if I had made them solid red. I decided I’d rather live with this look than start over. So it’s a colourful Canadian hat in any case.

Maybe I’ll make a red & white one. Or black & red.

There were 2-3 meters of blue left, so I knit them onto the bottom edge.
With 3.5mm, knit 1 round of Christmas red. Then (k1, p1) rib till red was used up. No leftovers!
Only 5-6 rounds of Christmas red so I finished with Ruby red. 24 total rounds of ribbing so it can be folded up. That way the colour change doesn’t show, and it’s warmer.
