MUST have pompom!
UK designer

I thought this hat would be fun in chenille yarn. Chenille has a unique look, but it requires different handling from regular yarn. It can shred when hand sewing, like when darning in ends. The cut ends of yarn are prone to fall apart and shed (not good for a pompom). This yarn is very slippery. Darn ends in well so they don’t loosen.

That’s one reason I carried the unused colours along rather than darn all those extra ends in.

Chenille looks very fluffy but is not necessarily warm. On a windy winter day, I’d rather wear wool.

CO 70 sts on 6mm is WAY too loose with this yarn. Chenille yarn has no elasticity. 40 sts would have fit.

I CO 56 sts on 3.5mm. 10 rounds ribbing. 1 round of (k4, m1) then switch to larger needle size (70 sts on needles).

I might knit it longer if a slouchy style looks good…

Added 1 more colour repeat.

After 5 rounds of top shaping:
K 1 round.
(k2tog) across round.
K 1 round.
(K2tog) across round.

Then thread yarn through (7) remaining stitches.

I think I would prefer that all the mosaic spots were the same size. Probably 4 rounds each.

Finished knitting in January. Added fur pompom February 28.
