Notes

I was with friends at The Juniper Café on a cold dark night. A stranger walked in. My eyes followed her across the room. I left my friends to go sit with her. Her name was Cecile and she hadn’t heard of Ravelry. I don’t recall her face, but I’ll always remember what she was wearing.

FAWKES (BO post) here

Main part of poncho is 4 st MC, 4 st CC1.*

  • If unused colour is carried to back: floats cross 4 sts; knitting has a “pleated” appearance.
  • if tension is loosened to let fabric lie flat: long floats cause excess looseness.
  • If unused yarn is twisted around each stitch (“Cowichan” style): resulting fabric is flatter; stitches are less distorted; gauge is close to target, but poncho will be too big.

How was the original designed to look?

  • Designer is not available on Ravelry.
  • Which is more flattering? The pleated look is warm and pleasing; honestly, it’s what drew me to the project in the first place.

After swatching, I learned that the most pleasing results come from just knitting at my usual tension without thinking about it.

Stranded motif is an 8-stitch x 20-row repeat.

Solid collar instead of stripes. Enough yarn ends already!

stitches in finished project:

small: 26,751
medium: 31,838
large: 37,309

Stranded Section:
Chart from Drops pattern; it is 44 sts x 26 rounds.
I have decided to do it on the smaller needles. Yarns are twisted if the unused colour float crosses more than 2 stitches.

Not enough Estelle Chunky; the Berroco in “Frost” is indistinguishable from that.

In the finished garment, there is a subtle difference in the pale grey background. I think it adds dimension to the look!
