Starting out with swatches. I made 2 so far, one using hook sizes as mentioned in the pattern (6.5 mm for the chains and 6 mm for the rest), and 1 a bit bigger (7 mm for the chains and 6.5 mm for the rest). Size is very similar and close to the needed gauge. I think I will make another one that’s bigger still. (8 mm for the chains, 7 mm for the rest)

Sizes of the swatches (after washing):
6 mm hook (6.5 mm for the chains) - 10.8 × 10 cm (10.3 × 10.4)
6.5 mm hook (7 mm for the chains) - 11 × 10.5 cm (11 × 10.5)
7 mm hook (8 mm for the chains) - 12 × 11 cm (11.5 × 11.5)
I’m going to continue with the 7 mm hook (8 mm for the chain stitches)

I’m starting the actual cardigan today. I picked the largest set of hooks I made the swatches with: 8 mm for the starting chains, 7 mm for the first and second rows of sc’s. The length was a little over the 49” it should be. With the shrinking I got on the swatches after washing, it should be ok. But when i started making the dc’s in row 3, it was obvious that that would make everything a bit wider still, so I dropped down to 6.5 mm.

Not going very fast, still working on the body of the cardigan. The first piece has to get to a length of 57 cm (22.5” for the XL). I’m at 34 cm.

I’m at 55 cm. That’s at 59 rows.

Getting close. Still need to do 1 sleeve and the pockets.
On the sleeves, I noticed that it looks better when you turn not to start in the joining stitch, and then to do the last stitch in the same one that had the slip stitch to make the number of stitches.

Added 2 rows to the sleeve.
Finishing up the 2nd sleeve. I used up the 2nd skein in row 35.

The cardigan is wearable! I still need to do the pockets, but the rest is done. It looks very good, I like the finishing touches, the rows of sc, followed by a row of slip stitches.
And it’s heavy! I have 103.8 g left, 1 full skein and a bunch of leftovers. Which means the cardigan had to be around 1150 g…
It’s definitely nice and warm.
