1 March 2018
The qualifying sock drops, and the madness begins!

I want to use my leftover Lorna’s Laces sock yarn for these socks, which I intend to make for my daughter Flutterbyte, who lives in Germany. In the first project (Estonian Flower Garden MKAL, the tonality of this yarn ate up the nupps. The picture is a shot of my husband, helping me rip out a full skein of yarn. So, I tried it again for my Olympic knitting, Fear and Wonder, and I’m very happy with the results. However, there is still 300+ yards left.

I want to use this clementine-colored yarn as the dark color, and so I am going to the store tonight to buy white or white with speckles yarn. If that is not possible, then I will glumly choose a dark yarn and the orange will transpose into the light color.

Update later!!

I just got back from the yarn store with MadTosh’s Twist Light in Modern Fair Isle, a speckled yarn, to go with my Satsuma orange yarn. I am happy with the combo. Once home, I see that there are little splotches of rather dark yarn, but I believe they are short enough that they won’t stick out… Don’t tell me to swatch.

So, I swatched. It looks good to me, and the mod who replied also said ok.

In the question thread, someone asked about the “marking” we need to do, to aid the mods in counting to see that we did the minimum number of rows/repeats. The mod responded, “You only need to show the pattern repeats on one sock. However, make sure that at least one photo contains both socks.” This seemed ambiguous to me, so I asked: “Do you mean to show a photo with both socks while one sock still has the marked pattern repeats? Or one photo with the repeats marked, then one photo with 2 socks, not necessarily marked?” I’m glad I did. The answer is: “Both socks with one marked please.”

This year may be the Chinese Year of the Dog, but in Sock Madness, this is my Year of Katherine. The socks I make will be hers. She lives in Germany, where it is cold, and has expressed a desire for More. Wool. Socks., which I am happy to provide. Especially since she had strep when she bemoaned not having enough wool socks.

March 12.
I finished the second sock tonight, after my model had already retired for the night. I will take the final pictures and send the email tomorrow.

March 13.
I took the final pictures tonight, and will send my qualifying round email out, momentarily.

Color Me Happy!!!

Katherine modeled her socks, and this part of the photo shoot reminds me of Dr. Seuss:

One foot,
Two foot,
Flexed foot,
Pointed foot.
