Notes

This design: vintage, classic and sweet.
It a spectacular design with beautiful shaping.
The original publication lists it as: a bit more tricky.
True. It is challenging but well worth the effort.

I have made a pdf of the entire pattern, rewording the confusing sections.
Happy to help anyone who needs assistance.

The directions are not written in the same style as patterns today and one has to concentrate. The stitches are not difficult but it is definitely intermediate to interpret.

To save magazine print space, only the directions for the Left Legs / Body are written out. One must switch knits for purls and purls for knits to make the R Legs / Body. That task keeps one’s brain from rotting.

Be sure to read the stitch guide for basic stitches.
There are short rows and no instructions on how to close them up.
Only the main design picture is provided for positioning.

Working up my stash of Dreamy yarn.
Using a bigger needle than the design because of the different yarn.

Needle confusion:
Pattern states to use:
3.0 mm # 11 for the bear.
4.0 mm # 8 for the scarf
No such thing as those combinations.
The needle sizes on the ravelry design page are correct.

Unless personal preference leads you otherwise, use 3.0 mm US # 2 1/2 for the bear and 4.0 mm US # 6 for the scarf.

Pattern Confusion:
Front Leg, Right:
Shape Leg:
Pattern states:
Inc 1 st at each end of next row and 2 following 6th rows – 34 sts.

Clarification:
Inc 1 st at each end of next row. (30)
(Starting with a purl row, work 5 rows st st.
Next row: Inc 1 st at each end of next row.) 2x. (34)
() = 12 rows.
Proceed with 3 r st st.
By doing the above, the necessary leg ht will be achieved.
If it meant to work increases every other row for the following six, it would have been worded as such.

Recommendation:
Directions state to stitch the seams of the legs after the body joining row. It is much easier to do that after the entire side piece is completed.

Errata:
Underside Head and Body:
After the blue markers and after the 1st dec row (29 st):
(2nd dec row, 3 rows st st) needs to be done 2x otherwise one will have two extra stitches before the next set of dec rows.
In addition, the length obtained from working those 4 more rows are needed in that area.

Debi Birkin is the designer.
She has a signature style.
I made her Patch the Puppy (1244) two times:
Blueberry Puppy for Charlie Z. and Blueberry and Denim Puppy.
