I am a disabled afro-Latina woman who was taught to crochet, by my mother, when I was 12 years old. I learned to knit shortly thereafter. I have always been creating; clothing, accessories, amigurumi dolls and stuffed animals. I am constantly trying new techniques, new tools, different fibers, materials and yarns. I love cosplay and anything geekery. I love to create something from nothing. It brings me joy so I try and pass my joy to you via patterns and my unique designs.

The past few years I have created mittens, scarves, and hats for the homeless with my knitting group in Metuchen, NJ. We also do yarn bombs at various locations around Middlesex County, NJ. We also knitted “breasts” for a charity called Knitted Knockers which are special handmade breast prosthesis for women who have undergone mastectomies or other procedures to the breast.

I will leave you with the three things i’ve learned in life & fiber thus far;

ALWAYS BUY ENOUGH YARN FOR THE PROJECT -- I learned the hard way; I was 3/4 of the way finished with the back of the men’s sweater to find that I didn’t have enough yarn. No biggie! I’ll go back to the yarn store and get more. I get the yarn home to find that, lo and behold, a navy blue yarn purchased on one day is different than navy blue yarn purchased on another day!! HA! HA! HA! ha! I was quite upset.

ALWAYS GAUGE -- yes, we all know this AND we all hate it BUT we NEED to do it. When I was finished with the men’s sweater, it was 1.5x larger than my husband who loved it, but it was HUGE!! I tried to reduce it (badly) by seaming it to make it smaller, but alas, that didn’t work and so it just sits in the closet now and no one has worn it.

ALWAYS PHOTOGRAPH your projects - I knitted a coral color cowl turtle-neck, halter-style, form fitting, mini dress when I was in my 20s. At the time, I may or may not have worn it myself, but I loved the way it looked on the model in the magazine and I wanted to try and make it - it was a challenge. I learned (from lessons 1 and 2) and bought enough yarn and also gauged it. IT CAME OUT AWESOME (if I do say so myself) I tried it on and it looked good. A “friend” also liked it and so I loaned it to her. She loved it and wore it, so it got good use. I WISH I HAD PHOTOGRAPHED IT AND I WISH I HAD GOTTEN IT BACK from her. It’s terrible that I didn’t get a picture of it!
