MY LIFE

My name is ZsaZsa Brown, I’m a 20 year old knitting pattern designer (or trying to be!) from West Sussex, UK.

I have severe anxiety issues, and knitting has always been something that’s helped me. I’ve been knitting since before I can even remember. I can’t even remember who taught me to knit in the first place! Either way, as soon as I COULD knit, I taught myself how to knit more and more complex things, whatever took my fancy. Fast-forward to now, I’ve knitted LOADS of commissions, and I’m getting into designing my own patterns!

Some years ago now, I saw a little ad in my local wool shop looking for knitters to make display items for the shop. It all spiraled from there. Since then I’ve knitted for knitting pattern designers, knitting magazines to be professionally photographed and modeled, small independent businesses, clothing designers, local community groups, lots and lots of private commissions, and even worked on a project for TV (Channel 4’s ‘Joe Lycett’s Got Your Back’)!

Now I’m designing my own patterns and uploading them for free on my blog.

MY DESIGNS

I simply like to design whatever makes me happy. Usually, that’s simple, colourful, or using natural wool or other natural fibres. I like to play around with natural dye sometimes (my favourite fact to tell people who know nothing about yarn is that avocado skins turn wool pink, and RED onion skins turn wool GREEN. Can you believe that?), and I am pretty obsessed with spinning my own yarn, too. I just love love love different sheep’s wools and discovering their different textures and spinning them up into different kinds of yarn. Roving gets me very excited.

If I had to sum up my designs, that would be quite difficult! I suppose minimalist, but colourful, cute, and joyful. Sometimes I like designing in miniature, little crochet or knitting projects that work up super quickly, but other times I like to design hats, socks, you name it.
